Announcing Textco BioSoftware’s website (www.textco.com) redesign – combining new functionality with a more modern layout and eye-pleasing look.

One of the new features of the redesigned Web site, is a blog maintained by Dr. Robert Gross, founder and President of Textco BioSoftware, and Associate Professor of Biology at Dartmouth College. Through his “Computational Biology Reflections” (CBR) blog, Dr. Gross will be exploring topics of interest in the area of computational biology – his current area of research. The posts will be designed for the typical biologist and will avoid computational jargon. The idea is to present current papers or trends in computational biology that might be of interest to “wet” lab biologists who may not be aware of new tools or approaches which could be of use to them in their research. Also in the blog will be interesting observations that spring out of current computational research and analysis.

Visitors can follow the CBR blog here.

Dr. Gross hopes this forum will become a useful resource for the biological research community in general. Researchers are encouraged to leave comments, suggest topics and forward the posts on to colleagues. If you are interested in contributing a blog entry, please let us know your thoughts.

Visitors to Textco BioSoftware’s new website will find it to be more visually engaging and easier to navigate. The redesigned layout gives both new and returning customers easier access to the information they are seeking about our software.

New customers will be able to drill down to specific product functionality quickly, using the new Gene Construction Kit® and Gene Inspector® product pages.

Current customers will notice the new ‘support‘ page – which offers easy access to download our complimentary product updates, register an existing software license, or to find answers to some frequently asked questions (faq’s).

All product tutorials have been moved into a traditional blog type format. In this new format, posts are sortable through keyword tags and category classifications, and the tutorial section of the site offers a dedicated search box to help find posts related to a specific topic. Utilizing this blog post format also offers users the ability to leave comments and give feedback – important in driving the direction of future product development.

Textco BioSoftware expects the new functionality will enable us to stay better connected with our customers, as we continue to deliver software that biologists want to use everyday.

Automated Converter Utility Offers New Flexibility

West Lebanon, NH 1|12|2010
Today, Textco BioSoftware made the first beta release of the new GenBank Converter application (GBC) available for testing and feedback. The utility is designed to give users a convenient way to automatically convert GenBank formatted text files into Gene Construction Kit® construct documents. Our GenBank Converter offers the flexibility of performing the import of 100’s or even 1000’s of files at one time.

This flexible GBC application also allows conversion of ‘modified’ GenBank files – such as those DNA documents generated by Vector NTi – and other similar analysis programs.

Using a customizable ‘Conversion Defaults’ panel, standard GenBank features identified in the text file are mapped to graphical representations in the resulting Gene Construction Kit® construct file. Textco BioSoftware expects to release a final version of the free utility in the first half of 2010.
