Exchange Information With Other Programs
Sequences generated in the Gene Construction Kit® can be saved as GCG, JPEG or PICT files or as formatted or non-formatted TEXT files. Since any image in Gene Construction Kit can be saved as a PICT or JPEG file, it can be further edited by a drawing program. Most illustration programs are capable of importing PICT or JPEG files. Images from other programs can be pasted into the Illustration window of the Gene Construction Kit. Gene Inspector files, as well as GCG, EMBL, PIR, GenBank and five other format files can be imported directly into the Gene Construction Kit along with associated comments. Therefore, the exchange of sequence information between the Gene Construction Kit and other programs is straightforward.
Comments
Comments can be attached to any object that is part of a construct: DNA segments, marked sites, regions, or even the whole construct. Up to 32,000 characters may be stored in each comment field. Comments (which can be searched for key words within the Gene Construction Kit and by the File Searching Module) can store literature references, growth conditions, storage locations, or other pertinent information about the construct and can function as an electronic notebook.
