Gel Electrophoresis Patterns

One can generate a predicted gel electrophoresis pattern for any construct by selecting the digest(s) to use, and copying and pasting them into a Gel window. Gels can be run with digests from any number of constructs using any number of enzymes. The Gene Construction Kit® can also display partial restriction enzyme digests, facilitating analysis of actual laboratory gels (see lane 3). The Gel window, through its ability to predict experimental results, can be used to explore "what if?" questions. One might develop different cloning strategies and evaluate the different approaches using gel electrophoresis patterns predicted by the Gene Construction Kit.

Illustrations
The Illustration window provides an ideal tool for assembling color or black and white figures for papers, posters, project planning charts, or slides. The figures in this web page come directly from the Illustration window and are not enhanced in any way. Illustrations can be up to 11.6 meters (38 ft.) square. Multiple constructs, sequence listings, gels, and graphic images from elsewhere can be displayed simultaneously in the Illustration window. Complex construction projects can be stored as Illustrations and updated as new constructs are assembled, providing a simple way of tracking complicated projects. Explanatory text can be added at any location in the illustration and attributes (font, style, size, and color) can be assigned for each individual character of the text. Drawing tools available include lines/arrows, filled or empty rectangles, round rectangles, and ellipses. Any construct in the Illustration window can be edited 'in situ' as a construct.
